Theraputic Approach
Louisa is strongly anchored in neuro-affirmative belief, and adopts a strengths-based approach to empowering and supporting clients to grow and develop. Over the years, she has supported clients across a wide range of ages and diagnoses including ASD, ADHD, social communication disorder and developmental delays. Louisa’s experience as a Speech and Language Therapist has seen her working across different settings, ranging from hospitals to voluntary welfare organisations to mainstream and special education schools. This has helped her develop an understanding of both the academic and socio-relational demands on the individual at each stage in life.
Beyond her training in speech and language therapy, Louisa is certified in multiple relational and naturalistic approaches such as DIRFloortime®, Hanen®, Facilitating Attuned Interactions (FAN) and Social Thinking®. Louisa has also received additional instruction and supervision on play- and narrative-based intervention, as well as executive function. She strives to tailor therapy support for each individual by tapping on the most relevant and suited approaches to allow them to best integrate and apply their learning functionally in their daily lives.
Louisa is also a firm believer in collaborative practice. She works closely with the various stakeholders in her clients’ lives (parents, caregivers, teachers, peers). She has also worked in multi-disciplinary teams and spearheaded research on the combination of Music Therapy and Speech Therapy in intervention. This novel research won a research award and also provided her with opportunities to present and share her experiences with fellow professionals at various conferences including the prestigious ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) Convention. Ultimately, Louisa recognises that everyone carries their own unique blend of personality, experiences and strengths, and seeks to maximise each individual’s potential through a holistic, trans-disciplinary approach.
