Therapeutic Approach
Lainie applies an integrative systemic approach in supporting individuals, couples and families experiencing a variety of challenges. Approaches include EFT, Solution-Focused, Narrative, Structural, CMM and NVR modalities. Demonstrating empathy and curiosity, Lainie establishes a strong therapeutic alliance with clients who experience low mood; anxiety; relationship challenges; attachment ruptures; neurodevelopmental challenges, including autism and ADHD; identity contemplation (gender, cultural, religious, racial, sexuality); parental mental health; among others. Using a systemic lens, Lainie keeps the wider family and cultural context in mind when supporting clients. This approach helps families seeking parental and family support within a multi-cultural context.
Qualifications and Training
Lainie completed her Master’s in Systemic Family Therapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in London whilst working for Child & Adolescent Mental Health Trust (CAMHS) and Adult Mental Health within the NHS in the UK. Lainie completed her initial Master’s degree in Human Resource Development in the US. Combining these qualifications enables Lainie to support individuals, couples and families using a systemic perspective.
Experience
Whilst working for the NHS, Lainie also supported a variety of mental health charities and maintained a private practice. Lainie helped to establish an emotional wellbeing support provision within her own community in the UK to support those impacted during COVID-19, and she supported refugee schemes in the UK including support for Ukrainian refugee hosts and Syrian refugees who migrated to the UK.
Lainie has run Autism Support Groups and multi-family groups supporting families who experience parental mental health challenges. She has witnessed the value of bringing people together who experience similar challenges in helping people connect and feel less alone.
Background / Personal Information
Originally from the US, Lainie lived in London, along with her husband and 2 children, for 12 years, with a brief time in Hong Kong, prior to moving to Singapore. Lainie recognises the benefits and challenges of raising children in a multi-cultural context which prepares her to support families experiencing similar situations. Lainie and her husband begin their empty nest stage of life in Singapore as their young adult children reside abroad. Lainie is positioned to support families through life-cycle transitions and decision-making.
Prior to qualifying as a Family Therapist, Lainie practiced as an organisational consultant providing support for teams, leadership and individuals within organisations considering how the various parts of the system interact. Lainie is passionate about applying a systemic approach – keeping the wider system and context in mind – and therefore transferred her systemic skills from the organisational context to working with individuals, couples, and families.
Lainie looks forward to exploring Southeast Asia.
