Social Skills Group

Social skills are part of a crucial skill set individuals use to interact with the social world around them daily. Social skills allow for smooth communication and appropriate interpretation of social information which leads to forming valuable bonds with individuals. It can be difficult to engage in a social-emotional thinking/feeling-based process for some children which results in behavioural difficulties in school, experiencing anxiety, bullying, interpersonal conflicts and low self-esteem. Here is a list of issues that can be helpfully supported by social skills training:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Social Anxiety
- Victims of bullying and teasing
- Low confidence and self-confidence
- Children who have difficulty making friends
Children with behavioural or developmental challenges often lack perspective taking which causes misunderstanding, embarrassing moments and at times conflict with their peers. Perspective taking is a crucial skill that’s part of social skills. Social skill is a skill set that can be learnt.
At TOC, we offer both individual and group social thinking sessions. Our social skills practice is based on the award-winning Michelle Garcier Winner’s Social Thinking Curriculum. This curriculum teaches kids to engage, regulate and respond to social interactions with their peers. Through the use of games, interactive exercise and structure, we aim to help your child form long-term friendships, develop self-confidence in social settings and emotional intelligence, learn collaborative and team working skills so they can play better in groups, and understand non-verbal communication.

Mommy & Me Massage Circle
Maternal mental health impacts both on mother‘s wellbeing and child development. Research shows links between perinatal depression and altered brain development in early childhood, leading to poor outcomes such as school performance.
Fortunately, evidence-based interventions have proven effective in alleviating perinatal depressive and anxiety symptoms both in the short and long term, minimising risks in child development.
