Therapeutic Approach
Cherry believes that the key to overcoming challenges is to be honest about who we are and take the time to discover and process our experiences. She takes a client-centred and empathetic approach and strives to provide a safe, peaceful, collaborative and mutually respected counselling environment.
She is working as a school counsellor in an international school in Singapore, supporting adolescents and young adults aged 13 to 19yrs with concerns related to transition and adjustment, identity development, anxiety, depression, self-harm, and low self-esteem. She also worked in community and non-profit organisations, helping clients with stress management, trauma, grief and loss, and marital issues. She is trained in multiple modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), Schema therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). As an avid learner, she continues to develop professionally.
Background
Cherry migrated to Singapore from Shanghai, China as an international student more than two decades ago. She is also a mother of three mixed-race children. Through her personal experience, she discovered her passion for helping individuals and families adjust to challenging life transitions (e.g. transition, relocation, parenthood and motherhood) and learning ways to lead a more fulfilling life.
Before counseling, Cherry had years of retail business management, regional training and career guidance experience, which gave her a unique understanding of people from diverse backgrounds and the mental health challenges that individuals may face in a fast-paced working environment.
Cherry speaks both English and Mandarin fluently.
